Datapod has been appointed to the Research Data Storage Infrastructure (RDSI) Vendor Panel by the Council of Australian University Directors of Information Technology.
This appointment will allow research hubs around Australia to access cost savings as well as innovative cloud and modular data center technology from Datapod.
Datapod will join a number of other data storage providers on the panel with Datapod uniquely placed to provide 'Cloud in a box' delivered as part of its modular data center solution.
Datapod Director Adam Smith said, “This is a welcome appointment for Datapod. It is clear modular data center systems combined with the ability to provide complete open cloud infrastructure solutions means universities, research and scientific institutions across Australia can now provision complete capacity from Datapod within 12 weeks of receiving an order.”
The RDIS Vander Panel is designed to provide options for potential RDSI ‘nodes’ and members of the Council of Australian University Directors of Information Technology (CAUDIT) to procure storage related infrastructure, software and services.
The panel allows nodes, universities and other authorised users to avoid lengthy tendering processes by using the panel and to support volume pricing across nodes and the wider Higher Education and Research Sector.
The ability to provide complete open cloud infrastructure using a modular data center approach provides RDSI nodes and CAUDIT members with the opportunity access what is being termed as the Next Generation IT Infrastructure (NGI). The NGI involves deploying technological solutions across the full ‘stack,’ from the data center to hardware to middleware and through the application layer, and can also include changes to an enterprise’s work flows and IT operating model.
“By accessing our services, RDSI nodes and CAUDIT members can really start driving down their costs by accessing technology that is flexible, scalable and energy efficient,” said Mr Smith.
RDSI requires Datapod to be accredited as a condition of entry to the Vendor Panel and provides additional reassurance to RDSI that vendors have been subject to an appropriate level of due diligence in order to obtain GITC accreditation.
